Y306 State Politics in the United States

Spring 2016

The American states are often referred to as the laboratories of democracy. This is because the federal constitution grants the states considerable authority and does not define how state governments are to be structured. As a result, how political institutions and political processes are structured varies considerably across states. The purpose of this class is to analyze the variation in political institutions and political processes in the American states and to learn how this variance shapes political outcomes.
